How to correct rib exostosis

Rib ectropion can be corrected in the following ways: 1. For children in the growth phase, the deformity of the ribs can be corrected by increasing nutrition, for example, by ensuring an adequate supply of calcium, vitamins and protein. These children should eat more fish, lean meat, milk, eggs, and plenty of fresh green vegetables and fruits; on top of this, they can take additional calcium preparations such as calcium lactate, calcium carbonate, calcium gluconate, and active vitamin D. 2. For adult patients, if this deformity is present, it depends on the presence of compression of important organs and serious deformities of the thorax. If there is only mild rib exostosis, but no associated clinical symptoms, it can be left untreated. If the abnormality of the shape and the compression of some important organs such as heart and lungs, or very serious deformity of the thorax, surgery is needed to correct it. The principle of surgery is to amputate some localized deformed ribs and then to treat them with internal fixation of the osteotomy. In addition to this, it may be necessary to remove the appropriate ribs to achieve the appropriate orthopedic shape.
