The Vital Gate point, also known as Genus Tiredness, Essence Palace and Bamboo Staff, belongs to the acupuncture points of the Directing Vessel. This point is located on the posterior midline, in the depression under the spinous process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra. The patient takes the supine or sitting position, first takes the lumbar yangguan of the posterior midline about the same level as the iliac crest, and then touches the two spinous processes upward in the lumbar yangguan to take the depression above the spinous processes is the point.
The point has the function of strengthening yang and tonifying the kidney, clearing heat and tranquilizing the mind, and regulating Chong Ren. It is mostly used to treat lumbar spine pain, menstrual disorders, red and white leucorrhoea (abnormal leucorrhoea with blood or blood clots), menstrual occlusion, menstrual cramps, infertility, spermatorrhea, impotence, infertility of semen cold, frequent urination, cold pain in the abdomen, diarrhea, and other symptoms. Clinically, it is mostly used in conjunction with Ren Yu, Guan Yuan, Shen Men and other points.
