What is scoliosis? Scoliosis, also known as scoliosis, is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine that includes serial abnormalities in the coronal, sagittal and axial positions. In a normal person, the spine should look like a straight line from the back and be symmetrical on both sides of the trunk. Scoliosis should be suspected if the shoulders are unequal in the frontal view or if the back is uneven from the back. At this time, a full spine x-ray should be taken in the standing position. If the frontal x-ray shows a lateral curvature of the spine greater than 10 degrees, scoliosis is diagnosed. Factors causing scoliosis Scoliosis can be divided into several categories depending on the cause: idiopathic scoliosis; congenital scoliosis; neuromuscular scoliosis; and scoliosis due to neurofibromatosis or Marfan syndrome. Idiopathic scoliosis, etiologically, is not very clear, but there is a genetic and hereditary relationship, in addition to an imbalance in the distribution of the paravertebral muscles themselves. Congenital scoliosis or kyphosis is usually a deformity of the spine caused by structural abnormalities of the vertebrae themselves. Congenital spinal deformities are usually accompanied by developmental malformations of other organs. Neuromuscular scoliosis is caused by weaknesses and lesions in the muscles of the thoracic back due to systemic muscular disease, resulting in the paravertebral muscles not being able to support the spine well. Neurofibromatosis type I tends to cause lateral (posterior) scoliosis, and Marfan syndrome (a chromosomal dominant disorder) is also a cause of scoliosis. The dangers of scoliosis Scoliosis is a common condition that affects adolescents and children. Mild scoliosis usually has no obvious discomfort and no visible trunk deformity in appearance. More severe scoliosis can affect the growth and development of infants and adolescents, deforming the body. In severe cases, it can affect cardiopulmonary function and even involve the spinal cord, resulting in paralysis. It is also important to pay attention to the mental health of the child, as some children may have low self-esteem and may be subject to ridicule and strange looks from their peers, which can lead to autistic personality in severe cases. Parents need to pay attention to what their children say and do and guide them. Scoliosis prevention Children should pay attention to maintain good sitting and standing posture, strengthen muscle exercise, prevention and treatment of scoliosis is the key to early detection, early diagnosis, early treatment, scoliosis prevention knowledge should be promoted in schools, regular scoliosis screening. 1. Babies should not sit too early. Some mothers do not know what to do, and when the baby is only 3-4 months old, they wrap the baby in a blanket and let him sit up for hours at a time. Sitting in the same position for a long time, the muscles around the infant’s spine are not strong enough, easily fatigued and unable to support the body, easily burying the hidden danger of spinal curvature. Infant pillows should be selected under the guidance of a professional physician, more ideal and appropriate. The child’s pillow should be low and soft as well. When sleeping, it is advisable to let the child’s entire shoulder back together on the pillow, in order to reduce the flexion of the neck. It is not advisable to let small children sleep on their stomachs for a long time, for a long time. Although they are so fond of such a posture. Can tell them: “Frogs can not become princes.” 2, the child sits in the correct posture, writing, reading books to sit upright, do not lie crooked on the desktop, and at the same time should be appropriate to change position and rest, so as not to cause scoliosis. The height of the child’s study table and chair should be appropriate. In particular, the teacher should also carefully observe the tables and chairs used by the baby and adjust them accordingly when necessary. The chairs in the classroom can never be suitable for every child. Therefore, we recommend that children sitting in chairs is best to sit in the first third or one-half of the chair surface, and try to sit straight upper body, do not maintain a bent back bending posture, in order to reduce the pressure on the heart and lungs and lumbar region. It is best not to sleep on your desk, otherwise, the teacher and the doctor will invite you to his office as a guest. When listening to lectures and doing homework, don’t tilt your body sideways to increase the lateral pressure on your back spine. Otherwise your spine will be as less beautiful as your words. 3, avoid carrying a school bag on one shoulder, although that looks very handsome. Be aware that perhaps you grow up to be a high and low shoulder, or even a patient with a spinal side. When taking the bus, it is best not to doze off for a long time on the back of the front seat. This is not only dangerous, but also very bad for the health of the spine. Avoid people hitting your body. This lateral horizontal external force on the spine is very dangerous. 4, many parents will send their children to special classes to learn, such as dance classes, table tennis classes, etc.. I don’t know how the teaching process in these special classes for the immature body of primary and secondary school students to carry out the necessary protection, really need to be fully considered, for example, for table tennis, scoliosis is the most common “occupational disease”. Keeping a dance posture for a long time may also cause scoliosis. 5, lying on a hard bed. The human spine from the side is curved, medically called “physiological curvature” or “physiological curvature”. Supine in the horizontal plane, the back and waist of the spine just strong to support the body, and long-term lying on too soft beds, the body’s self-weight will make the spine “physiological curvature” change or disappear. This means that the spine becomes straighter (from the side), resulting in discomfort or pain. Because the child’s spine is so flexible and easily defined, children, especially during the developmental years, are more likely to experience discomfort or pain. Therefore, children, especially during development, adolescence, overweight children, in order to better maintain the physiological curvature of the spine should choose to sleep on a hard bed. 6, do not choose too large shoes for children, which is not a good way to save, because children’s feet grow much faster than imagined. Overly large shoes will make the child’s lower limbs walk very uncoordinated, long-term, will increase the pressure of the work of the spine, pain. Do not choose excessively hard-soled, thick-soled shoes for your child, either. This will allow them to walk in such a way that the soles of their feet do not feel the ground better and increase the load-bearing capacity of the spine. Do not allow girls to wear boots that restrict ankle movement, or even high-heeled or spiked leather shoes. This will add to the burden on the spine, especially the lower back. Beauty should be based on health. Try to avoid walking barefoot. Especially in summer and warm times, cold feet can contribute to and exacerbate pain in the lower extremities and lumbar spine. Scoliosis is actually not considered scoliosis if the angle is within 10 degrees; correction is only needed for cases greater than 10 degrees. Early scoliosis can be corrected by means of lumbar, abdominal and back muscle exercises, pull-ups, push-ups, gymnastic form exercises, etc. Many children do not have to suffer from surgery. Scoliosis greater than 45 degrees to 50 degrees requires surgery.
