When palpating the kidneys, usually choose the two-handed palpation method, now take the palpation of the right kidney as an example, ask the patient to take the lying position, bend the knees with both legs and do deep abdominal breathing, the doctor stood on the right side of the patient, hold up the right waist of the patient with the palm of the left hand, the palm of the right hand is placed on the right upper abdomen, the direction of the fingers is roughly parallel to the edge of the right rib cage, and carry out the deep palpation of the right kidney. Hold the kidney with both hands while the patient inhales; if a smooth, bluntly rounded organ is touched, it may be the lower border of the kidney; if a larger portion can be held between the hands, a kidney with the shape of a fava bean can be slightly perceived, and at this time the patient may experience soreness or a nausea-like feeling of discomfort. When palpating the left kidney, the left hand crosses over the front of the patient’s abdomen and holds up the left lumbar region from behind, while the palm of the right hand is placed across the patient’s left upper abdomen and the left kidney is palpated in the same way as previously described.
