Complications of hypokalemia include the following: 1. The normal function of skeletal muscles is affected. Low serum potassium levels in the body tend to feel fatigue and weakness, and even generalized muscle weakness, limb weakness and loss of tendon reflexes. If the respiratory muscles are affected, respiratory muscle paralysis, breathing and swallowing difficulties may occur, and in severe cases, death may even occur due to asphyxia. 2. A series of complications may occur in the digestive system, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, anorexia, constipation, reduced peristaltic function of the gastrointestinal tract leading to paralytic intestinal obstruction, and even edema of the submucosa of the intestine. 3. Complications in the central nervous system may lead to disorientation and even drowsiness and coma. 4. The circulatory system is affected, leading to tachycardia.
