If there is urine in the bladder that cannot be voided, ultrasound is recommended to assess the amount of residual urine in the bladder. If the residual urine is relatively small, oral medication can be administered. α-blockers are recommended. α-blockers can effectively reduce the smooth muscle tone of the bladder neck as well as the prostate gland to reduce urethral resistance and improve the patient’s urination. The most common medications are alfuzosin, terazosin, doxazosin, and tamsulosin, etc. Take one oral tablet for observation. If urination is still not possible after 1-4 hours, an additional oral tablet can be given. If the medication is not effective in improving urination, an indwelling urinary catheter or cystostomy can be performed, a condition that drains urine from the bladder and prevents the development of upper urinary tract fluid accumulation.
