What to do when a family member finds out about a tumor

The incidence of malignant tumors is getting higher and higher, high mortality rate as well as high treatment cost, many cancer families end up quite miserable, cancer village, cancer island, cancer word frequently seen in the media also let people have to talk about cancer, once the family members or friends found out the tumor, what should we do? Personally, I have been engaged in the treatment of tumor diseases for many years, and I would like to give you several suggestions: First, strategic contempt. Although cancer is powerful, it is not completely untreatable, nor is it a terminal disease. Medical science and technology are changing day by day, new technology and new drugs are being developed one after another, and there are more and more treatment means for cancer. About 1/3 of malignant tumors can be cured through timely and reasonable treatment; 1/3 of cancers can be controlled and prolonged through treatment; and the remaining 1/3 of advanced cancers can be relieved from pain through reasonable treatment. The remaining about 1/3 of advanced cancer can achieve the ultimate goal of alleviating the pain of the disease through reasonable treatment. Therefore, once a family member or a friend is diagnosed with cancer, he/she should not be frustrated, but should think calmly, face the situation calmly, and look for reasonable and formal medical treatment. In addition, it should be reminded that never trust the charlatan doctors, improve medical common sense, and do not be deceived by some fancy treatments or advertisements. Second, tactical attention. This is very important. Cancer is a large class of diseases, and the complexity of treatment is far greater than that of general diseases. There are two main aspects to be discussed here. One is about the diagnosis of cancer, and the aim is to be precise. Where is the primary site of the tumor? What is the staging of the tumor (it should not be a generalized early, middle and late stage, but should be specific to stage I, II, III and IV)? Diagnosing a cancer may require many CTs, many MRIs, and even many punctures. In order to reduce unnecessary costs and physical injuries, and to shorten the time to obtain a final diagnosis, it is necessary to seek an experienced oncologist. At the level of tumor diagnosis, I personally feel that there is no need to travel to the famous tumor hospitals in the north, because most of the tumor diseases can be diagnosed in the tumor hospitals in different provinces and cities or in the tumor specialties. Because in these big tumor hospitals in the north, there are a lot of patients who need to wait in the queue and often can not be timely medical examination, which sometimes will delay the condition. Secondly, about the treatment of cancer, when the patient’s disease is prepared to be characterized and positioned as well as accurately staged, the treatment is not difficult to do, generally speaking, the oncology specialties or oncology hospitals in various provinces and cities will give a more reasonable treatment plan, because the staging of tumors is unified, and there are norms for the treatment of tumors. If you decide to have surgery to treat cancer, I suggest that you need to think carefully about where to have the surgery. Who should be chosen to perform the surgery? This is because different hospitals and different surgeons may have different treatment results, which is related to the surgeon’s previous treatment experience and the degree of follow-up on the latest knowledge; if the cancer is staged at a late stage, which is no longer suitable for surgery, and the treatment methods are very diversified, I personally suggest to listen to the voices of a few different hospitals and different specialists. Before searching for specialists, organize all the patient’s information, all the films, and bring the patient with you to the consultation. If it is not convenient for the patient to go to the outpatient clinic, it is recommended to take the patient’s recent video or photos. Finally, compare the records of different specialists, seek commonalities while reserving differences, do a generalization and organization, kill a shot in return, in the experts you have looked for, choose one you trust, for the whole systematic diagnosis and treatment. In the process of diagnosis and treatment is not recommended to change doctors and hospitals frequently, because it will not only increase the additional cost of treatment, but also affect the process of treatment.
