Metformin has been found to have “weight loss”, “lowering sugar”, “anti-aging”, “prolong life” and other miraculous effects, but also “longevity drug”, or can let people live to 120 years old! Therefore, it is even called “miracle drug” by some people, so magical Metformin can be eaten by ordinary people? Is it really good? Metformin is the world’s number one diabetes drug, metformin is the drug of choice for patients with type 2 diabetes. In the oral hypoglycemic drug jianghu, it can be said that “rivers and mountains have talented people”, but it seems to have never been able to shake the metformin this “undefeated in the East” dominant position – metformin as the first-line drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, is recommended by almost all the treatment guidance and guidelines, it is by far the most widely used hypoglycemic drugs. Metformin extends the life span of people with type 2 diabetes even longer than non-diabetics. A large-scale study that included 180,000 people found that people with type 2 diabetes who took metformin for a long period of time may have a higher average life expectancy than non-diabetics, and that metformin has health benefits for non-diabetics as well. Researchers studied the survival of type 2 diabetics taking metformin and sulfonylureas and compared the life expectancy of these patients to matched non-diabetics, with the 3 groups matched on metrics such as age, sex, whether they smoked, and other clinical status. The results found that, compared with non-diabetic patients, diabetic individuals taking metformin had significantly improved quality of survival and higher life expectancy, while those taking sulfonylureas had reduced quality of survival and their life expectancy was also lower. The study leader, Prof. Craig Currie, said, “Metformin has anticancer properties, may also help protect against cardiovascular disease, and can reduce the incidence of diabetes in people at high risk of the disease by up to one-third.”
