If the follicles are too small, they are not mature and the possibility of conception is very small. Only mature follicles will be discharged from the ovaries and have the ability to combine with sperm and then complete conception. When a woman has low sex hormone levels or other reproductive endocrine disorders, this can affect the normal development of follicles and can also affect normal menstruation. Delayed follicular development with small size or cessation of development up to a certain point can prevent normal ovulation and fertilization. With the exception of special small mature follicles, pregnancy is not possible and usually requires medication to promote follicular development and ovulation to assist conception.
