What is macular degeneration?

The macula is an important structure in the eye that is associated with fine vision, color vision, and other visual functions, and when macular degeneration occurs, it can lead to abnormal vision. Macular degeneration is not an independent disease. Fundus diseases such as central plasma choroidal retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, etc. can all lead to macular degeneration, which may affect vision and manifest as decreased visual acuity, distorted vision, and abnormal color vision. When visual abnormalities occur, patients are advised to go to the hospital as soon as possible, under the guidance of the doctor, to take targeted treatment, pay attention to eye care in life, avoid overuse of the eyes, and wear sunglasses when going out to reduce bright light stimulation.
