What’s wrong with peeling skin around the mouth like flakes?

If the skin around the mouth peels like flakes, it is possible that seborrheic dermatitis has appeared in the area. The causes of seborrheic dermatitis are complex, and are usually related to localized sebum secretion and allergic factors, resulting in localized hyperplasia and exfoliation of some skin stratum corneum, along with certain scaling-like manifestations. It is also possible that there is a limited dermatitis in the area, which is also called perioral dermatitis because it is around the mouth. Recurrent episodes of perioral dermatitis may result in dry or flaky skin in the area, with some flushing and itching. Therefore, for this condition, anti-allergy treatment is generally required first, while local moisturizing or emollient treatment is needed.
