Can budesonide be used for newborns

Budesonide can be used in neonates. Budesonide is a glucocorticoid for nebulized inhalation, the main effect is to inhibit the airway inflammatory response to reduce the symptoms of cough and wheeze in patients. It is the first-line drug used clinically for the treatment of allergic cough and wheeze because of its local action, low systemic dose, good local absorption and obvious effect. Newborns also have cough and wheezing symptoms when they have respiratory infections, so budesonide nebulized inhalation is also available. However, due to the weak cough and more secretions in the respiratory tract after nebulizer inhalation, newborns are prone to accumulate in the airway causing phlegm blockage, so newborns need to be given back tapping after nebulizer to promote sputum discharge.
