IUD removal is a relatively minor and common procedure that can be done on an outpatient basis. Before the procedure, an ultrasound is done to see if the ring is ectopic and embedded in the myometrium. If the ring is in a normal position, a routine leucorrhoea test is done to rule out any acute vaginal infection, and if there is an infection, removal of the ring is not recommended. If everything is normal, you should come to the hospital 3-7 days after your menstrual period, without intercourse, to have the ring removed. The main reason for choosing this time is to avoid infection, because there are bacteria left in the vagina during intercourse, and the ring removal operation will cause uterine cavity infection and further inflammation of the fallopian tubes and pelvis, which will affect the next conception.
