What to do with red and swollen gums in a two year old baby

Red and swollen gums in two-year-old babies may be gingivitis or chronic apical periodontitis, and maintenance of oral hygiene or root canal treatment is recommended.
1. Gingivitis: Brushing should be carried out from the time the first tooth erupts in children. Two-year-old babies usually have most of their teeth erupted, and if they do not pay attention to oral hygiene, it will easily lead to bacterial adherence and inflammation of the gums. It is recommended to use the arc brushing method to brush the teeth in the morning and evening, and rinse the mouth after meals; if there is no obvious relief, some children with cooperation can ultrasonic teeth cleaning.
2. Chronic periapical inflammation: Caries in children usually progresses very quickly and can easily spread to the root tip, causing apical inflammation and leading to swelling or fistula on one side of the gums. Root canal treatment is needed to remove the decayed tissue and the inflammation at the root tip in order to cure the disease.
Whether it’s gingivitis or chronic periapical inflammation, good oral hygiene is the key to prevention, and it’s equally important for two-year-olds to pay attention to their oral hygiene and have regular checkups.
