What is lung filariasis?

Filariasis is a parasitic infection of the lungs with filarial worms. The main cause is an inflammatory reaction in the lungs due to the presence of eggs or adult filarial worms in unclean food and drink, which enter the lungs. In the early stages, the patient may have a frequent cough that progressively worsens. There is a change in breathing pattern, mainly abdominal breathing, which may be characterized by head stretching outward and tongue sticking out. The symptoms of dyspepsia such as diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating are accompanied by different degrees of wetness and rales in both lungs. At this point, the diagnosis should be clarified, necessary deworming treatment should be carried out, and attention should be paid to improving the cardiopulmonary function to prevent the occurrence of respiratory distress or even respiratory failure.
