For stones of 7 mm, the best treatment option is extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. The stones are broken up by ultrasound after high energy focusing and then expelled from the body. For stones below 5 mm, in principle, most of them can be removed by drinking water, exercising and taking lithotriptic drugs. 5-20 mm stones can be considered for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is an economical and effective way of treatment. If the stone is not discharged satisfactorily after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, it is important to pay attention to whether there is worsening of hydronephrosis, encapsulation of granulation tissue in the lower part of the ureter, or ureteral stenosis. Holmium laser lithotripsy for ureteroscopy can be considered in this case.
