Does high blood pressure cause coughing?

Generally, hypertension does not cause cough. If a hypertensive patient develops a cough, consider the following conditions: i. Cough caused by taking ACEI drugs, which manifests as a dry cough. The reason is that ACEI stimulates airway hyperresponsiveness and inhibits bradykinin decomposition, resulting in inflammation that stimulates lung receptors causing a dry cough, and the cough improves after stopping ACEI; ii. Hypertensive patients with cardiac insufficiency and congestive heart failure may also develop a cough; iii. In addition, we need to consider other causes of cough, such as cough caused by lung inflammation and lung tumors, and do relevant tests to further exclude them.
