What’s wrong with the dry, itchy side of the throat?

Dry and itchy on one side of the pharynx may be caused by acute pharyngitis, reflux pharyngitis and pharyngeal ulcers. 1. Acute pharyngitis: acute inflammation of one side of the pharyngeal wall stimulated by viral and bacterial infections and adverse physical and chemical factors. As the local inflammation leads to edema and congestion or over-drying of the mucosa, dry and itchy clinical manifestations will occur. 2. Reflux pharyngitis: when the reflux of gastric acid stimulates the pharyngeal area and causes the mucous membrane of one side of the pharyngeal wall to burn, dry itching and foreign body sensation may occur on one side of the pharynx. 3. Pharyngeal ulcer: an opportunistic infection caused when the body’s resistance to the original pathogenic bacteria (Clostridium difficile and spirochetes) in the pharyngeal cavity decreases under certain conditions. When there is a superficial ulcer on one side of the pharynx, there may be pharyngeal itching, dry cough and pharyngeal foreign body sensation and pain. If the symptoms of dry itching are obvious or persist without relief, patients are advised to go to the ENT department of the hospital.
