How long does it take for a talus fracture to heal?

The healing time for a talus fracture is usually about three months. It is very important to have the fracture fixed in a cast during the initial 6-8 weeks because the blood supply to the talus fracture is low and if the fracture is displaced or not fixed firmly during the fixation period, it can easily cause talar necrosis and cause the fracture to not heal. If it is clear that there is continuous bone scab at the fracture site, the cast can be removed and functional training of the ankle joint, including dorsiflexion, plantar flexion, adduction and abduction, can be started. Generally, at two months, you can walk with partial weight bearing with the support of crutches, but not with full weight bearing. At three months, if the fracture of the talus is clinically healed, full weight-bearing is allowed.
