What to do if you are pregnant with anal prolapse

If prolapse occurs after pregnancy, it mainly depends on the severity of the prolapsed local rectal mucosa. Mild prolapse can be treated symptomatically with herbal enemas or hemorrhoid creams or anti-inflammatory creams that can be used for pregnant women. In the case of severe prolapse with a cylindrical or cone-shaped prolapse, surgical treatment under local anesthesia is recommended to partially excise the loose and prolapsed mucosa in order to avoid further aggravation of the condition. In particular, if the patient has pain or blood in the stool due to repeated protrusion of the anal mass, it should be treated as soon as possible to avoid local pain causing contractions that may lead to preterm labor. Pregnant women must avoid excessive straining when defecating during pregnancy. Repeated excessive forceful defecation can also aggravate the severity of prolapse.
