Hazards of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic bypass: 1. Hepatic encephalopathy occurs when blood from the portal vein enters the circulation directly through this procedure without detoxification of the liver cells, causing dysfunction of the central nervous system and hepatic encephalopathy. 2. During anticoagulation therapy with stents, the patient’s poor liver function can lead to an increased incidence of hemorrhage, which can be life-threatening if important organs hemorrhage. 3. The stent connected to the portal and vena cava veins through the liver may become progressively blocked, which may require reoperation to ensure the patency of the stent.
