Electrical defibrillation can be repeated several times, not just three times. Defibrillation is the termination of an arrhythmic episode in the body by electricity, and is mainly used clinically for the treatment of tachyarrhythmias. Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, ventricular flutter, and ventricular fibrillation can all be treated with defibrillation. Different energy and defibrillation methods should be chosen for different arrhythmias, such as asynchronous defibrillation for ventricular fibrillation and synchronous defibrillation for supraventricular tachycardia. Defibrillation can be repeated more than three times as long as it is indicated. However, too much defibrillation may cause myocardial damage, so try not to do it more than once. Defibrillation needs to be performed by a professional or by trained emergency personnel.
