Milk thistle is the dried mature fruit of Asteraceae.
It is bitter in flavor and cool in nature. It has the effects of clearing heat and removing toxins, dredging the liver and inducing bile. It is often used in the treatment of dengue (an acute infectious disease in which the skin is seen to be red as if painted), sores and swellings, liver diseases, coughs, damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder, dystocia (pain in the area of the ribs and coats of arms), jaundice, and so on.
Silybum marianum has the function of detoxification. It is used for jaundice, cirrhosis, hepatomegaly and other liver diseases, gallstones and other conditions.
