The severity of a broken foot can be judged by the patient’s pain level, physical signs, functional activities, imaging tests, and treatment. 1. Pain level: can be judged by the patient’s pain level, if the patient only mild pain, no obvious pressure pain, it may be only a slight soft tissue contusion, if the patient’s pain is more intense, it is considered to be a ligament tear, ankle joint fracture signs. 2. Signs: If the patient only has mild swelling and no obvious deformity, then the symptoms are mild. If there is obvious bruising, limitation of activities, bone rubbing sensation, and deformity in appearance, then it may be a fracture, which is a serious injury. 3. Functional activity: the severity can be judged from whether the patient can walk normally and whether the activity is limited. 4. Treatment: If the patient does not get better after initial treatment or even continues to get worse, it may not be a simple localized abrasion, but a deep-seated bone injury. 5. Imaging: X-ray, CT, MRI and other examinations of the affected area can clarify the damage. Patients generally can not judge the severity of the broken foot by themselves, and should go to the regular hospital for examination of the condition in order to clarify the treatment.
