What to do about kidney damage in systemic lupus erythematosus

The kidney damage of SLE is mainly lupus nephritis, which is related to the deposition of immune complexes in the glomeruli. Lupus nephritis needs to be treated by changing lifestyle habits and medication (e.g. prednisone, cyclophosphamide, etc.).
1. Changing lifestyle habits: patients with lupus nephritis should limit the amount of protein in their daily diet, and it is recommended to choose high-quality protein, such as lean meat, as a source of protein; and control the intake of sodium salt, in order to help control the disease.
2. Drug treatment: use glucocorticosteroids such as prednisone and methylprednisolone or apply immunosuppressants such as cyclophosphamide and cyclosporine as prescribed by doctors. Refractory or frequently relapsing lupus nephritis should be treated with drugs such as rituximab and belelizumab as prescribed by doctors.
Patients with SLE kidney damage are advised to go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment, do not self-medicate.
