A few days ago, when we visited a county hospital, the director of the hospital heard that fire acupuncture was effective in treating facial nerve palsy, so he asked us to take a look at the ward, where they had three patients with facial palsy. What is the manifestation of facial palsy: often when you wake up, you look in the mirror and find that your mouth and eyes are crooked, your eyes cannot close and your mouth cannot puff up. Of the three patients seen this time, two found it when they washed their own faces; one of them was accompanied by ipsilateral ear pain, and the other was sitting on the back of a motorcycle, blowing for a few hours, and got up the next day to find out that something was wrong. Most of these cases are thought to be caused by wind and cold, based on the fact that the body’s positive energy is not enough to resist external evil due to overwork, and the qi and blood are paralyzed by wind and cold, resulting in facial muscle paralysis due to the misalignment of the tendons. Some facial paralysis is called “Hunt’s syndrome” in Western medicine, which is caused by herpes zoster virus, so some patients complain of ear pain and herpes can be found in the ear. Another type is called “Bell’s palsy”. Patients with facial palsy show the following symptoms: sudden onset of the disease, some feel pain in and around the ear before the onset of the disease, when they get up in the morning to wash their faces and brush their teeth, they find that their mouths and eyes are crooked and their facial muscles are paralyzed – the forehead wrinkles on the affected side disappear, the eye fissures widen, the nasolabial folds become shallow, the corners of the mouth droop, food remains between the cheeks on the affected side when eating, the white sclera under the cornea is exposed on the affected side when the eyes are closed The treatment is based on the following principles: (1) the use of fire acupuncture to disperse wind and pass through the ligament. With a fine fire needle, burning red in the alcohol lamp in the face on the affected side of the corresponding points rapid puncture, shallow stab. Once a day, 7 times as a course of treatment. Acupoints: Yangbai, Sibai, Dicang, Yingxiang, Chengjiao, Chee Chee, Hegu, Quchi, A-Yi acupuncture point Case: Female, 58 years old, washed her face in the morning and found that her mouth and eyes were crooked, the right side of her face could not move, the forehead elevation lines disappeared, the right corner of her mouth drooped when she opened her mouth, and her mouth was pulled to the left side. He came to the clinic with clinical manifestations as described above. The diagnosis was: facial palsy. He came to the clinic on the same day of illness and was given fire acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture points: Yangbai, Sibai, Sun, Dicang, Yingxiang, Chengjue, Chee Che, Hegu, Quchi, and rapid shallow stabbing. After two weeks of treatment, all the symptoms disappeared and the face returned to normal. Experience: Early recognition of facial palsy is important. Early recognition and early medical consultation are especially important to obtain a good prognosis and avoid sequelae. Fire needle shallow pricking (using 0.3mm diameter acupuncture needles) is a simple method with good and rapid efficacy, little pain for the patient, no scarring on the face, and quick recovery.
