What happens when polyps are discharged during menstruation?

The discharge of polyps in menstruation usually refers to endometrial polyps. Endometrial polyps are formed due to high estrogen levels in the body, stimulating the growth of the endometrium, and are usually benign. It may also be caused by endometritis and endometrial polyps, which often cause increased menstrual flow, prolonged periods, and even irregular vaginal bleeding. In cases of excessive menstruation, some of the small endometrial polyps are shed and excreted from the menstrual flow due to complete exfoliation of the endometrium, but the chances of this are extremely small. For patients who are suspected of having endometrial polyps and those who have had polyps expelled, ultrasound and, if necessary, hysteroscopy are recommended to rule out the presence of residual uterine polyps.
