What can cirrhotic patients do to reduce GI bleeding?

Esophagogastric fundic vein bleeding is often the main cause of death in patients with cirrhosis, because of its rapid bleeding speed and large bleeding volume, which often threatens patients’ lives if not treated in time within a short period of time. The causes of sudden bleeding are many, but the patient’s own factors cannot be ignored, such as overeating, alcoholism, eating rough and hard food, etc., are common causes of sudden bleeding, therefore, the maintenance of cirrhotic patients themselves play an important role in reducing sudden esophagogastric fundic vein bleeding. As we all know, the mucous membrane of the esophagus of normal people is orange-red, and the blood vessels are distributed in a fine mesh, which will not be varicose, but only when the portal hypertension occurs the esophagogastric fundic vein is varicose and bleeding, and cirrhosis is the common cause of portal hypertension. Because the blood vessels in the liver of cirrhotic patients are destroyed, the blood flow cannot pass normally and stasis at the portal vein, which causes the portal hypertension due to the increase of internal pressure in the portal vein, resulting in the formation of other side branch vessels including esophagogastric fundic vein, and the esophagogastric fundic varices are exposed in the lumen of digestive tract, which are prone to rupture and bleeding due to long-term erosion of gastric acid and food abrasion. Improper self-maintenance of cirrhotic patients is an important cause of esophagogastric fundic variceal bleeding, therefore, it is recommended that patients with cirrhosis routinely undergo gastroscopy to understand whether there are esophagogastric fundic varices and the degree of varices, whether there is recent venous bleeding, and for patients with esophagogastric fundic varices, the following points should be noted in daily life: 1. Diet should be strictly required: 1) small amount, multiple meals, fluid or Soft food, the amount of food at a time should not be too much. ② Food “temperature” should not be too high, to “warm” can be. ③ Absolutely forbid to eat rough, hard and irritating food, including alcohol, to prevent bleeding from the varicose vein being “cut”. 3, keep emotional stability, avoid emotional fluctuations due to family disputes, anger, extreme excitement, etc., to prevent sudden increase in intravenous pressure and bleeding. 4.Keep the bowel movement smooth, preferably 1-2 times a day, to soft stool is good. 5.Do not do heavy physical labor, do not overwork and exercise. 6.If you experience fever, insomnia, nausea, cough, abdominal distension, epigastric discomfort and other symptoms, go to the hospital promptly, especially epigastric discomfort, consider the possibility of bleeding. Patients with cirrhotic esophagogastric fundic varices will have a much lower chance of sudden bleeding as long as they do the above points. Of course, if the examination by gastroscopy and other tests suggest that the esophagogastric fundic varices are heavy and there is a possibility of bleeding in the near future or patients who have already had bleeding, it is recommended that endoscopic intervention or surgical treatment or other treatments should be carried out as soon as possible.
