How to treat osteoarthritis

Non-surgical treatment: For patients with very early and mild osteoarthritis, they can be treated without medication and can be considered for physical therapy alone. Physical therapy: Physical methods include patient education, weight reduction, exercise modification, exercise in the correct way, muscle strengthening exercises, weight reduction, use of assistive measures such as walkers and crutches, etc. You can also wear shoes that can absorb impact, use insoles that are low on the inside and high on the outside, and use medial knee braces, etc. In Europe and the United States, a significant proportion of patients can reduce their symptoms and return to normal life and work through the above treatments. China’s investment in this area and the concept of medical and nursing staff is still relatively weak, the future to strengthen this work is the medical staff at all levels should pay attention to. 2, drug therapy: If non-surgical treatment can not relieve the pain symptoms of osteoarthritis patients, you can consider the application of drug therapy, currently there are three main drugs commonly used in the clinical treatment of osteoarthritis: (1) sodium vitrate: the main component of the synovial fluid in the joint cavity, play a lubricating role in the joint, reduce friction between tissues, enhance the viscosity of the joint fluid and lubrication function, protect the joint cartilage, promote joint Cartilage healing and regeneration, pain relief, and increased joint mobility. This drug is used for intra-articular injection once a week for 5 weeks. (2) Glucosamine: Glucosamine can promote the synthesis of proteoglycans with normal structure by chondrocytes, protect joint cartilage, reduce damage to chondrocytes, improve joint movement, relieve joint pain and delay the course of osteoarthritis. Take 250-500mg orally once, 3 times a day, best taken with meals. (3) Non-steroidal analgesic anti-inflammatory drugs: can inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory substances, counteract inflammatory response, relieve joint edema and pain. However, it has no significant effect on the development of osteoarthritis. Can be used ibuprofen, fotarine, celebrex, etc. Surgery If the symptoms of osteoarthritis are very serious, drug treatment is ineffective, and affects the patient’s daily life, surgical intervention should be considered. Arthroscopic surgery: For osteoarthritis of the knee, some people advocate arthroscopic joint debridement first. Arthroplasty: For most patients with osteoarthritis, arthroplasty has a significant effect in relieving pain and restoring joint function, but because of the recent and long-term complications of arthroplasty, such as loosening and wear of components and osteolysis, these complications cannot be completely resolved. Therefore, it is important to strictly control the indications for joint replacement surgery. Strictly speaking, the indications for surgery include: (1) radiographic evidence of joint damage; (2) the presence of moderate to severe persistent pain or disability; and (3) patients who have failed to respond to various non-surgical treatments.
