The treatments for children with intussusception include non-surgical and surgical treatments. After non-surgical treatment, the child can eat fluids the next day, and after surgical treatment, the child can resume normal diet in about 1 to 2 weeks. Intussusception is a condition in which a section of the intestinal tract becomes trapped in the lumen of the intestinal tube to which it is attached, and is mostly seen in young children. If the non-surgical treatment is successful, the baby can eat some liquid food two days after the treatment, and if the child has no uncomfortable symptoms, he/she can gradually switch to normal eating. Surgery should be performed if the trochlea cannot be reset, or if the duration of the disease has exceeded 48 hours, or if intestinal necrosis is suspected. Generally, the bowel resumes to ventilate in 2~3 days after surgery, and fluid feeding can be performed. Normal diet can be carried out after about 1~2 weeks. If a child develops intussusception, he or she needs to seek medical treatment as soon as possible to avoid aggravation of the disease.
