Floating thumb on a child’s right hand can cause deformity of the child’s index and middle fingers?

This child had a floating thumb on his right hand, and because the thumb was not functional, he had become accustomed to using his index and middle fingers to pinch objects in his normal life, which led to severe deformity of the index and middle fingers. At the time of the surgery, the child was already a teenager, but parents should not think that only teenage children will have deformation of the index finger. During outpatient clinics, we found that children who are a few months old also have this tendency, because the thumb is not functioning, so the child can only use the index finger to pinch things, and after a long period of time, deformation of the index finger is bound to occur. The reason why I tell you this is to remind the parents of children who have not had surgery to supervise their children and try not to let their children use their index fingers to pinch; secondly, I want to tell the parents of children who have already had surgery that in the early postoperative period, the child will subconsciously use his index finger to pinch, and this is when the parents need to pay attention to correcting the situation. After the child realizes that the thumb can be used, slowly the child will no longer use the index finger to clip.
