The sensation of ear blockage can be caused by diseases such as cerumen impaction or secretory otitis media. Discomfort caused by cerumen impaction is usually relieved immediately after it is cleared, and if it is caused by secretory otitis media, the healing time ranges from a few days to a few months.
1. Cerumen embolism: It refers to the excessive secretion of cerumen in the external auditory canal or the obstruction of cerumen discharge, which causes cerumen to gather into a mass in the external auditory canal, blocking the external auditory canal and producing a sense of ear blockage. Usually, sodium bicarbonate solution will be used to soften the cerumen after 3 to 4 consecutive days, and then the softened cerumen will be removed by suction in ENT clinic, and the blockage can be relieved immediately after removal.
2. Secretory otitis media: patients often have hearing loss, ear blockage, the use of mucus to promote the discharge of drugs and decongestant treatment, usually 1 ~ 2 weeks to recover. Persistent secretory otitis media requires surgical treatment, such as tympanocentesis and otoscopic tympanotomy and tube placement, and recovery time can take months or even longer.
Causes of ear blockage include but are not limited to the above listed conditions, it is recommended to visit the hospital in time to clarify the cause of the problem and treat it as soon as possible.
