Herbal remedies for cystitis

Cystitis belongs to the category of gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and astringent pain) in Chinese medicine, and the traditional Chinese medicines used for its treatment include Bazheng San, Shiwei San, Buxi Yam Pill, Cheng’s Dioscorea Dioscorea Drink, Xiaojijie Drink, and Sinking Fragrant Powder.
1. Bazheng San: composed of Polygonum aviculare, Qu Mai, Mutong, etc., it can treat feverish drenching (burning and stinging pain during urination, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of pulling in the abdomen), with burning and stinging pain during urination, bitter taste in the mouth, red tongue, yellowish greasy moss, and slippery pulse.
2. Shi Wei San: It is composed of Shi Wei, Psyllium, Dong Quai Zi, etc. It is used for the treatment of stone drenching (discharge of gravel during urination, or sudden interruption of urination, pain in the urethra, intolerable pain in the lower back and abdomen), symptoms of which include gravel in the urine and pain in the lower back and abdomen.
3. Unparalleled Yam Pill: composed of Poria, Zedoary, yam, etc. It is used for the treatment of labor drenching (urinary frequency and urgency, urinary pain, and abdominal discomfort after labor), symptoms of which can be seen in recurring urinary drenching, and lingering course of the disease.
4. Cheng’s Dioscorea Villosa Drink: composed of Dioscorea villosa, Acorus calamus and Plantago ovata, etc. It is used for the treatment of drenching of urine (urine as turbid as rice soup or slippery as grease, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of traction in the abdomen), with symptoms such as turbid urine like rice slop.
5. Xiao Ji Drink: composed of Xiao Ji, Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Rhizoma Dioscoreae and Rhizoma Dioscoreae, it is used in the treatment of haemorrhagic drenching (the appearance of blood in urine accompanied by pain), the symptoms of which can be seen in the dark red color of urine and blood clots.
6. Shenxiang San: composed of white peony, angelica sinensis, and Shenxiang, treating qi drenching, which is characterized by dribbling of urine and fullness and pain in the lower abdomen after depression and anger.
If the manifestation of cystitis occurs, one should consult the clinician for diagnosis and treatment, and should not use medication on one’s own.
