The presence of swollen knees in gout may be due to gout attacks involving the knee joint.
Gout attacks are associated with the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joints and surrounding tissues, inducing acute joint and soft tissue inflammation and joint damage. Gouty attacks can involve the large joints, with the metatarsophalangeal joints, knees, and wrists being the favored sites. Knee swelling in gout patients may be related to joint inflammation involving the knee joint, the appearance of joint exudate and other causes of knee swelling.
Patients with gout combined with knee swelling should try to rest in bed and elevate the affected limbs, drink a lot of water, avoid high-purine diet, high-sugar diet and alcohol; follow the doctor’s instructions to take anti-inflammatory, analgesic drugs to improve the symptoms of joint swelling, common drugs such as colchicine, ibuprofen and so on.
It is recommended that patients should go to the rheumatology and immunology department of the regular hospital in a timely manner, and give targeted treatment after clarifying the cause. Drugs should be used in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, do not self-medication.
