How to choose the anesthesia method?

Before the surgery, the doctor will decide on the method of anesthesia depending on the type of surgery. Usually patients pay more attention to the surgery and the main surgeon, but rarely ask about the anesthesia and the anesthesiologist. It is not known that the success or failure of the operation is directly affected by the anesthesia and plays an important role in the whole operation. Therefore, it is necessary to choose anesthesia carefully and correctly in cooperation with the surgeon. In general, the choice of anesthesia should be based on the premise of ensuring the effect and safety, and the choice of effective, simple, economical and less side effects anesthesia methods and anesthetics. (1) For critically ill patients, local anesthesia is preferred, and if general anesthesia is required, appropriate safety measures should be adopted. (2) Patients with respiratory system diseases, difficult mouth opening and patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding should not use inhalation anesthesia. (3) Patients with cardiovascular system diseases should use local anesthesia and not lumbar anesthesia as much as possible when doing surgery other than cardiovascular system. (4) When operating on pregnant women, lumbar anesthesia, epidural anesthesia or local anesthesia is appropriate. (5) When operating on diabetic patients, local anesthesia is the safest, and lumbar anesthesia or epidural anesthesia can also be used. (6) For pediatric surgery, use intravenous basic anesthesia plus local anesthesia; for longer time, use inhalation general anesthesia or intravenous complex anesthesia. (7) The elderly should use local anesthesia or epidural anesthesia. Of course, the choice of which anesthesia is mainly to listen to the doctor, the patient should not interfere too much, but can discuss with the doctor according to the knowledge acquired.
