I. What is a hernia? A hernia is when an organ or tissue in the body leaves its normal anatomical position and enters another part of the body through a congenital or acquired weak point, defect or orifice. What are the symptoms of hernia? General symptoms: It generally manifests as protrusion when standing, disappears when lying on the back, and can enter back into the abdominal cavity by pressure. The more common clinical condition is inguinal hernia, where a mass can be seen or felt in the inguinal region. If it is an incarcerated hernia or strangulated hernia, it is painful and difficult to push back into the abdominal cavity. Treatment 1. Non-surgical treatment Young children under one year old can be suspended from surgery because of the possibility of disappearing on their own, and the deep ring can be pressed with a cotton thread girdle or bandage. 2.Surgical treatment If the hernia is not treated in time, the hernia lump may gradually increase in size, which will eventually aggravate the symptoms and even threaten the patient’s life due to impaction or narrowing, so surgery should be performed as early as possible. Advantages of laparoscopic hernia repair The application of laparoscopic technology for diagnosis and treatment of hernia is the best choice for modern hernia treatment. At present, with the development of technology and material science, the gap between the cost of laparoscopic surgery and that of open surgery is gradually narrowing, and has been recognized by more and more patients. Currently, the commonly used laparoscopic hernia repair procedures are preperitoneal repair (TAPP) and complete extraperitoneal repair (TEP) Laparoscopic hernia repair is a minimally invasive repair modality that is most suitable for a variety of small to medium-sized inguinal hernias and bilateral hernias. Laparoscopic hernia repair has the following advantages: 1. Laparoscopy allows a comprehensive view of the condition, enables timely detection of contralateral occult hernia that is usually missed because of the absence of seizures, and solves bilateral hernia at the same time in one operation, avoiding the pain of reopening for contralateral hernia 1 to 2 years after the first operation by traditional surgical methods. 2.Little injury, quick recovery, no obvious incision, good cosmetic effect, no destruction of normal inguinal canal anatomy and levator muscle, no damage to vas deferens and spermatic cord vessels and nerves, thus reducing the incidence of ischemic testicular inflammation. 3.The surgical site is far from the location of the patch, which greatly reduces the complications such as wound infection and liquefaction. 4.The patch placed is 10~15 cm in size, which can cover the weak and defective areas prone to hiatus hernia, hiatal hernia and femoral hernia at the same time, significantly reducing the recurrence rate. 5. The surgery is less traumatic, the postoperative pain is light and the recovery is fast. The patient can get out of bed 6 hours after surgery and resume normal movement the next day after surgery, and the patient can be discharged from the hospital in about 3-5 days.
