Nighttime glare after myopic surgery usually disappears gradually after 3-6 months after surgery, but it may persist for a long time in some patients.
The appearance of nighttime glare after myopia surgery is related to the surgical wound and pupil dilation at night, because the pupil diameter increases in the dark, and when the pupil diameter is larger than 7mm, the corneal plane at the surgical incision collects the scattered light from the surrounding area to enter into the eye, which causes the glare phenomenon. At 3-6 months after myopic surgery, the corneal incision heals and the patient’s night glare gradually disappears.
However, it should be noted that the discomfort of nighttime glare can persist for a long period of time in some patients and is more difficult to recover.
It is recommended that patients follow the doctor’s instructions for care after myopic surgery, have regular checkups, and seek prompt medical attention when discomfort occurs to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
