Neck and shoulder pain is a common clinical health problem. Often times, neck and shoulder pain is simply understood to be the result of a herniated disc or arthritis, however, there is growing evidence that muscle function problems are the primary source of neck and shoulder pain. As for clinical management, 80% of patients simply require conservative treatment. This also suggests that the source of pain is not from irreversible disc or joint degeneration, but from some reversible functional changes.
