An enlarged thyroid in children, which may be caused by tracheal compression or metastatic cancer, may lead to breathing through the mouth and requires active treatment to be sought.
1. Tracheal compression: An enlarged thyroid gland in children, also known as a goiter, can cause breathing to be compromised. When the thyroid nodule keeps enlarging, it will cause the trachea to be compressed and become relatively narrow, which may easily cause difficulty in swallowing or even breathing, and need to consider undergoing thyroid surgery to remove the thyroid gland for treatment.
2. Cancer metastasis: if thyroid adenoma is malignant, lymphatic metastasis generally occurs, or even cause lung metastasis, it may cause breathing difficulty, and also cause children to breathe through their mouths when sleeping.
For children with enlarged thyroid gland, parents are advised to bring their children to regular hospitals for examination and treatment according to the results.
