How can lactose intolerance be detected?

Lactose intolerance can be detected by hydrogen breath test and lactose tolerance test.
1. Hydrogen Breath Test: If the patient has lactose intolerance, it will lead to the inability to digest and absorb lactose in the gastrointestinal tract, and the lactose can produce a certain amount of hydrogen, which enters into the lungs through the bloodstream, and can be detected by performing the hydrogen breath test.
2. Lactose tolerance test: Lactose intolerance is determined by taking a certain amount of lactose orally and having blood drawn at 0, 60, and 120 minutes to measure the amount of lactose in the blood.
If lactose intolerance is diagnosed, early and standardized treatment is recommended to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
