How do you feel about taking Valium for insomnia?

Insomnia is a common reason for patients to visit the clinic and is a condition that clinicians often have to deal with. There are many posts on the website about the treatment of insomnia, and patients can study and refer to them. Now, I would like to discuss my own views in combination with my clinical experience in treating insomnia. 1, some patients have long-term insomnia, but do not dare to take “sleeping pills”, fearing that addiction, hard to hold on. This actually reflects the patient’s worrying character, who likes to think of the bad things. It is important to know that the damage to the body from not being able to sleep is much greater than taking sleeping pills. Tranquilizers are only one type of drug for insomnia, and there are several kinds of these drugs, of which the short-acting ones are difficult to prescribe because they are more addictive and have been controlled by law, and the medium- and long-acting ones are less addictive. Their addictiveness is exaggerated. A small number of patients in the clinic are addicted mostly because they do not take medication as prescribed, take medication indiscriminately, and fail to visit a psychiatrist for professional consultation. 2. Regarding the use and discontinuation of Valium drugs, the guidelines recommend short-term intermittent medication. But I think to take medication sleep improvement and stability, the patient has established confidence in sleep, and then gradually establish the discontinuation of drugs. Individual patients can be reduced from one-half to one-eighth, and then discontinued. 3, the combination of Valium-type drugs. For chronic or stubborn insomnia, can be combined with other types of drugs with sedative-hypnotic effect, which can increase the efficacy and reduce the dosage of Valium drugs and side effects; when discontinuing drugs, first reduce Valium drugs.
