What is a bypass

Abdominal surgery in which the shunt includes portal shunt and splenorenal shunt, the purpose of which is mainly to reduce the portal vein pressure and thus reduce the symptoms of portal hypertension. Various clinical causes including hepatitis B, post-hepatitis cirrhosis, schistosomal cirrhosis and even alcoholic cirrhosis can cause portal hypertension. Portal hypertension appears mainly as varices in the esophageal veins of the fundus and the opening of the collateral circulation, and in severe cases it can even cause vomiting of blood endangering the life of the patient. Therefore, the clinical treatment for portal hypertension includes bypass surgery and dissection. Bypass surgery mainly includes splenorenal vein bypass, which means anastomosing the splenic vein with the renal vein, thus reducing the reflux of the splenic vein and reducing the pressure of the portal vein, or directly anastomosing the portal vein with the inferior vena cava, thus reducing the pressure of the portal vein and reducing the symptoms of portal hypertension.
