There are many proprietary Chinese medicines for regulating the spleen and stomach with different efficacies, such as Baohe Pills, Spleen Enhancement Pills, Radix Rehmanniae Pills, and Ginseng Plum Stomach Granules. Commonly used proprietary Chinese medicines to regulate the spleen and stomach include Baohe Pills, which can harmonize the stomach and eliminate food stagnation (promote food digestion), and are used to treat food stagnation and distension of the epigastrium (abdomen); and Spleen Health Pills, which strengthen the spleen and qi and eliminate food stagnation (promote digestion by reinforcing the spleen and stomach qi), and are used to treat food stagnation due to deficiency of the spleen, which is difficult to be eliminated, and makes one tired and fatigued. Pills such as Lizhong Wan (附子理中丸) warms the middle Jiaozhong and strengthens the spleen, and is used for cold pain in the epigastrium (cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen) in people with coldness in the spleen and stomach; and granules such as Ginseng and Plum Nourishing Stomach Granules (参梅养胃颗粒) nourish yin and benefit the stomach (replenish yin in the stomach) and is used for burning heat in the stomach and epigastrium in people with insufficient yin (insufficient yin fluid in the stomach). Spicy and stimulating food should be prohibited when using Chinese patent medicines for spleen and stomach regulation, and it should also be noted that tonic medicines such as Radix Rehmanniae Pills should not be used for patients with exopathogens, and tonic medicines should not be taken when taking Baohe Pills.
