Are high basophils serious?

High basophils may be seen in various causes, such as allergic reaction, chronic granulocytic leukemia, myelofibrosis, etc. Whether it is serious or not depends on the cause of the disease.
1. Allergic reaction: when the patient’s body has an allergic reaction, it will lead to an increase in the number of basophils, which can be effectively relieved after prompt antihistamine treatment (e.g. using chlorpheniramine maleate, etc.).
2. Chronic granulocytic leukemia: Chronic granulocytic leukemia may lead to abnormal proliferation of basophils, and the increase in basophils caused by this condition is often more serious, requiring long-term chemotherapy for leukemia, which can be directed to the use of targeted drugs such as imatinib.
3. Myelofibrosis: myelofibrosis can also lead to increased basophils. Increased basophils caused by this condition will gradually lead to bone marrow hematopoietic dysfunction, anemia, infections and other symptoms, which are more serious.
Caused by increased basophils, there may be other causes, it is recommended that patients seek early medical care, clear diagnosis, targeted treatment under the guidance of physicians. Blind self-medication should be avoided.
