Is astrocytoma serious?

Astrocytoma, also known as diffuse astrocytoma, occurs mainly in the brain, is highly prevalent, complex to treat, generally difficult to cure, and prone to recurring and more serious. Its specific severity is related to the grade of astrocytoma. 1. Low-grade astrocytoma: it usually takes epilepsy and headache as its main clinical manifestations, grows slowly and has a long course. In most cases, the average time from the onset of symptoms to treatment is 2 years, and in some cases, it may be as long as 10 years. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Surgery can relieve symptoms and slow tumor growth. 2. High-grade astrocytomas:These include mesenchymal astrocytomas and glioblastomas. Mesenchymal astrocytoma is a malignant tumor with 5-year survival rate of about 27% and 10-year survival rate of about 19%. Glioblastoma is the most common astrocytoma in the CNS and has the highest degree of malignancy. The median survival of patients is 14 months, and the 2- and 5-year survival rates are 27.2% and 9.8%, respectively. It can usually be treated with surgery in conjunction with radiotherapy, but only provides symptomatic relief. If diffuse astrocytoma is present, prompt medical attention should be sought.
