If the lump is large, with a diameter of more than one centimeter or increasing in size during clinical observation, surgical treatment and postoperative pathological examination are required. If middle-aged or older women present with a hard lump in the breast, especially in the upper outer quadrant of the breast, with or without axillary lymph node enlargement, breast ultrasound or mammography, and if necessary, breast magnetic resonance imaging, to exclude breast malignant tumors. If the result of the examination is highly suspicious of malignant tumor, early surgical treatment is needed, and chemotherapy-based comprehensive treatment is adopted after the diagnosis is confirmed by postoperative pathological examination.
