What is esophagitis?

Esophagitis, also known as esophagitis, is a series of inflammatory conditions that occur when various layers of esophageal mucosal tissue are irritated or damaged by physical or chemical factors over a long period of time. The common factors that can cause esophagitis are the following 1. Gastroesophageal reflux disease, the most common type of esophagitis, is caused by damage to the esophageal mucosa caused by upward reflux of food from the stomach and duodenum into the esophagus, stimulated by stomach acid, etc. The typical symptoms of GERD are acid reflux and heartburn. Acid reflux is a feeling of something returning upward after a meal or when there is a change in body position; heartburn is a burning sensation behind the sternum, like a feeling of high temperature irritation caused by drinking overly hot water. There can also be some extra-esophageal manifestations, such as cough, hoarseness, pharyngeal discomfort, etc. 2, physical stimulation caused by esophageal mucosa damage: such as food is too hot or food is too hard, can cause damage to the esophageal mucosa. 3, chemical stimulation caused by the esophageal mucosa damage: common are certain drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, strong acids and bases, other irritating drugs or poisons, etc., can cause damage to the esophageal mucosa. 4, radiation damage: radiation therapy is also easy to cause damage to the esophageal mucosa. When you feel “heartburn”, or “heartache”, pain behind the sternum when drinking hot water or eating stimulating food, and choking when eating, you must go to the hospital for a comprehensive examination to clarify the cause and then do targeted treatment.
