Depakene Sodium Valproate Extended Release Tablets Instructions

Sodium valproate, also known as Depakene, is mainly indicated for the treatment of epilepsy. It is used to treat generalized seizures, including tonic clonic seizures, akathisia, atonic seizures, mixed seizures, and also partial seizures. In addition to this, it can also treat manic seizures associated with bipolar disorder. Major side effects include liver damage, limb tremors, and gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It is contraindicated in patients with both acute and chronic hepatitis, and is not recommended for women who are pregnant or gestational. The use of the drug in children is also recommended as monotherapy, and the amount of medication given to elderly patients should be adjusted downward.
