What causes too much prolactin?

The main causes of high prolactin are physiological factors, pituitary prolactinoma, polycystic ovary syndrome and so on.
1. Physiological factors: Eating, exercise, emotional abnormalities and other reasons, as well as women’s ovarian luteal phase, pregnancy, breastfeeding and so on, may be elevated prolactin, which is a normal physiological phenomenon, generally do not need special treatment.
2. Pituitary prolactinoma: it is an occupying lesion occurring in the pituitary gland. The tumor has secretion function and can secrete a large amount of prolactin, which leads to high prolactin level in human body.
3. Polycystic ovary syndrome: in polycystic ovary syndrome, the polycystic nature of the ovaries may lead to abnormal ovarian function, which may cause the hormone secretion level of the ovaries to be disturbed, and some of the patients may have high prolactin levels.
Patients with hyperprolactin, after eliminating physiological causes, must consult a doctor in time to avoid delaying the condition.
