Modern acupuncture has recorded that this point has the function of calming the mind, clearing the head and eyes, waking the brain and opening the orifices, which can treat headache, vertigo, epilepsy, insomnia, amnesia, stroke, tremor and paralysis, sequelae of encephalitis, inner ear vertigo and other diseases. In addition to treating insomnia, stroke, headache, Alzheimer’s disease and hypertension, I have also achieved good results in treating some difficult and miscellaneous diseases. The following clinical cases are briefly described for the correction of colleagues. 1, post-stroke mental confusion Case 1: The patient, male, 83 years old, was seen in July 2005. The patient had suffered from cerebral infarction 2 years ago, leaving the left side of the limb paralyzed, but his mental and physical state was not affected. 3 d ago, the patient developed confusion in speech and hallucinations, and was confirmed to have cerebral infarction again by MRI in a western hospital. BP 160/90 mmHg, heart rate 82 beats/min, arrhythmia (history of atrial fibrillation), reddish tongue, thick and white fur, and knotted pulse. The evidence belongs to phlegm and turbidity, and the clear orifice is clouded. The treatment is to resolve phlegm and lower turbidity, to awaken the brain and open the orifice. The acupoints used are Sishencong, Baihui, Fengchi, Shoulder k, Arm, Quchi, Waiguan, Hegu, Fuqiu, Liangqiu, Foot Sanli, Sanyinjiao, and Zhonghua. After 5 times of treatment, the patient’s language expression was basically normal, phantom hearing and vision disappeared, memory improved, mood was cheerful, and speech increased compared with before; after continuing treatment for 20 times, the patient’s thinking, language expression and memory were basically the same as before the stroke, food and nourishment were good, constipation improved, and left side limb paralysis still remained. After stroke, acute ischemia of brain tissue causes damage to brain nerve cells. Early treatment can make the edema around the lesion subside and accelerate the formation of collateral circulation around the lesion, thus promoting the recovery of brain function. This patient received acupuncture treatment on the third day after stroke, which is a relatively early intervention, and thus achieved good results. 2. Brain function impairment after cardiac arrest Case 2: The patient, male, 39 years old, was seen in July 2006. The patient was in cardiac arrest due to compression of the chest by a heavy object in a car accident 1 month ago. Now the patient has no memory of all the events before the onset of the disease, poor language expression, significantly impaired memory, does not remember what just happened; can not describe his physical discomfort; although he can say his name, but does not know his family, can not read and write, can not calculate, even dressing and eating need to be taken care of by his family, childish thinking, low cognitive ability, intelligence is about equivalent to 3-4 years old children. The blood pressure and heart rhythm are normal, the tongue is dull, and the pulse is sunken. The evidence belongs to stasis of blood and stagnation of the clearing organs. Treatment is to invigorate blood stasis and awaken the brain to open the orifices. The acupoints selected are Sishencong, Baihui, Zhisanzhen (Shenting, Benshin), Fengchi, Neiguan, Shenmen, Hegu, Blood Sea, Feet Sanli, Sanyinjiao, Heart Yu, and Diaphragm Yu. After 5 treatments, the patient’s expression ability improved significantly compared with before, and he could chat with the doctor and talk about his physical discomfort; after continuing treatment for about 20 times, his thinking, memory and cognitive ability improved significantly, and he had recalled the previous events one after another, knew his occupation, knew his family, and had started to practice simple calculation and reading, and his intelligence had reached the level of a teenager. The patient’s treatment was interrupted due to discharge from the hospital. The patient had basically returned to normal and could perform simple tasks, but was slow to respond. The patient’s brain function was damaged and temporary amnesia was caused by cardiac arrest. Acupuncture with Si Shen Cong and Zhi San acupuncture had the effect of awakening the brain and opening the orifices, as well as the effect of Cong Shen Puzzle. 3. Congenital hearing impairment Case 3: The child, male, 3 years old, was seen in October 2005. When the child was 2.5 years old, his parents found that his pronunciation was unclear and his hearing was found to be moderately impaired in a western hospital, with high-frequency sounds predominating. Present symptoms: The child is lively and active, with normal intelligence, and his speech is muddled, with unclear pronunciation, which is difficult for others to understand except his mother. The evidence belongs to congenital deficiency of endowment and loss of nourishment of the ear orifice. Treatment is to awaken the brain and open the orifices. The acupuncture points of Sishencong, Zhisanzhen, Fengchi and Cataract are used. After 15 times of treatment, the child’s pronunciation was clearer than before and he could talk to the doctor. The child’s hearing was significantly better than before, especially the high-frequency sound; after continuing treatment for about 20 times, the child’s hearing basically returned to normal. The child was unable to acquire normal speech function due to hearing loss. Early treatment can often play a role in promoting the development of the auditory nerve or inner ear hair cells in the child, and can maximize the improvement of hearing impairment in infants and children without any adverse effects. 4. Otologic vertigo Case 4: Patient, female, 49 years old, presented in November 2006. The patient had recurrent dizziness and rotating vision with nausea and vomiting for more than 20 years, with an average of one attack every 5-7 d. She was diagnosed with otologic vertigo by a Western doctor. Western medicine treatment relieved the symptoms, but left a mild dizziness that could last until the next attack, thus preventing the patient from working normally for more than 20 years. He was usually depressed, depressed, had poor appetite, dreamy sleep, and loose stools. Examination: blood pressure is normal, heart rate is 65 beats/min, rhythm is uniform, tongue is red, moss is white and thick, pulse is sunken. The evidence is that phlegm is blocked in the middle, clear Yang is not rising, clear orifices are not nourished, and liver depression is also present. The treatment is to resolve the phlegm and lower the turbidity, resolve the depression and open the orifice. Since the patient was afraid of acupuncture, he was firstly given Half-xia Tianma Baijiao Tang and Sihui San plus and minus. After taking 8 doses without obvious effect, the patient agreed to try acupuncture treatment. The acupuncture points were Sishencong, Baihui, Fengchi, Catarrh, Zhonggu, Neiguan, Hegu, Foot Sanli, Sanyinjiao, Yanglingquan, and Taichong. After one treatment, the patient felt that the vertigo was reduced by half, the spirit was better than before, and the vomiting was reduced. After about 10 more treatments, the vertigo and vomiting disappeared completely, and the patient had good food, mood and sleep, and resumed normal work. It is rare for this patient to have such frequent attacks of aural vertigo and such severe symptoms. Sishencong has the effect of calming dizziness and relieving depression, and it is very effective in treating auricular vertigo when combined with Baihui, Fengchi, Feet Three Miles and Sanyinjiao. 5. Restless leg syndrome Case 5: The patient, male, 51 years old, was seen in September 2006. The patient has been suffering from discomfort in the right leg for more than 10 years, especially at night, and often feels soreness and swelling in the gastrocnemius muscle of the right calf or ants, and often wants to shake his leg to relieve the symptoms, which seriously affects his sleep. He was treated with tui-na and acupuncture for many times, but was not effective. He was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome by a Western doctor, and took Western medicine without improvement. Current evidence: poor sleep, acceptable food and stool, irritable and nervous, light tongue, thin white fur, thin pulse. The evidence belongs to liver and kidney yin deficiency, and the tendons and veins are not nourished. Treatment is to nourish yin, soothe tendons, calm the mind and tranquilize the spirit. The acupoints used are Sishencong, Baihui, Kidney Yu, Qihai Yu, Large Intestine Yu, Zhizhong, Chengjian, Foot Sanli, Yanglingquan, Sanyinjiao and Kunlun. After 3 times of treatment, the patient felt less discomfort at night and improved sleep; after 10 times of further treatment, the discomfort in the right leg disappeared completely and the sleep was normal. Restless leg syndrome is a spontaneous and unbearable abnormal sensation occurring in the lower extremities, most commonly in the gastrocnemius muscle, which severely interferes with sleep due to its pronounced nocturnal symptoms. The patient had received acupuncture treatment several times before the consultation, but the acupuncture points were mostly limited to the lower limbs locally or to the lumbar region. Since the occurrence of this disease is related to mental factors, Si Shen Cong and Bai Hui were added for their calming and tranquilizing effect. 6, hysterical pain Case 6: The patient, female, 68 years old, was seen in October 2006. One month ago, after severe mental stimulation, the patient suddenly developed severe pain in the left side of the chest, accompanied by panic and trembling, and went to the hospital quickly after the injection of analgesics to reduce the symptoms but did not disappear completely. Current evidence: The patient is nervous, sleepless, normal food and stool, red tongue and thin pulse. Check: BP 170/90 mmHg, heart rate 78 beats/min, rhythmical. The evidence belongs to liver stagnation and fire, internal disturbance of the heart and mind, external attack on the chest, and paralysis of the meridians. The acupoints used were Sishencong, Xin Yu, Di Yu, Liver Yu, Gall Bladder Yu, Sun and Moon, Periodic Gate, A-Ye point, Yanglingquan and Taichong. During the first treatment, the patient’s pain was induced by pressure during the positioning of the acupuncture points, and the pain was intense, emotional, trembling, and screaming. In this case, the patient’s left hypochondriac pain was wandering and no abnormality was found on examination, plus it was induced by mental stimulation, so it was typical of hysterical pain. The acupuncture points Sishencong, Riyue, Zhimen, Yanglingquan, and Taichong are used to calm the mind and de-escalate the fire in the liver, and the acupuncture points Xin Yu, Liver Yu, Gall Bladder Yu, and A-Ye are effective in relieving pain. It is easy and safe to use, and can be effective in all diseases related to the heart, liver and brain. The stabbing method is mostly from the front to the back along the skin, into the needle about 0.5-0.8 inch, can be used with the application of electroacupuncture and moxibustion.
